PVCs discovered in drainage system as INEC commences probe

PVCs are found in the sewage system as INEC begins its investigation.

Permanent voters card, pvc

The Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were reportedly found in a drainage system, according to videos that have gone viral. The Independent National Electoral Commission (APC) says it has started an investigation into these videos.

Festus Okoye, the INEC spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, hours after the footage surfaced on social media.

PVCs could also be seen lying around in some unnamed offices in the videos, which were posted on Twitter on Thursday.

The MEDIA was unable to identify the precise regions of the nation where the PVCs were discovered at the time this piece was written.

Many Nigerians on social media accused INEC of being involved in the disenfranchisement of Nigerians during the 2023 General Elections, although some claimed that gunmen who raided the commission's offices may have taken the PVCs.

"The Commission's attention has been called to films that are popular online showing what appear to be Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) supposedly buried underground in several locations, including the home of a well-known individual.

The Commission is not dismissing these accusations. We have launched a swift inquiry, and anyone found responsible for this evil plan that was clearly designed to deny Nigerians their right to vote would face legal repercussions. The PVC is a right of every eligible Nigerian who registered to vote. Election voting rights guaranteed by the constitution cannot ever be restricted or limited in any way.

According to the Commission's records, PVCs have been printed for all legally registered voters in Nigeria through January 14, 2022, and have been sent to every State in the Federation for voter collecting. Retrogressive elements won't be allowed to undermine our progress, the statement stated.

The commission reaffirmed its dedication to the fundamental principles of democracy.

Additionally, it vowed to evaluate the PVC collection process to guarantee greater openness.

Meanwhile, we ask anyone who discovered the purportedly buried PVCs to deliver them to the State or Local Government office that is the closest to them. This will be their patriotic contribution to strengthening our voting system, according to INEC.

Call off your strike to allow us address your demands- Bauchi HoS urges striking staff  Bauchi state government on Wednesday pleaded with the striking academic and non academic staff unions in five tertiary institutions in the state to as a matter of urgency call off their ongoing strike for government to resolve their demands immediately.  State's Head of Civil Service, Yahuza Adamu Haruna at a press briefing held at Government House, Bauchi expressed concern for the inability of the striking staff to allow the state government address their issues rather than embarking on the strike.  He stated that, calling off the strike will enable the state government to continue with the negotiations with the leadership of the Joint Acton Committee (JAC) of the unions for possible resolving their demands raised once and for all.  "We are surprised by the strike embarked upon by the JAC members despite knowing the efforts of the State Government to resolve their demands, ...
